The French commander at Fort Orleans, M. de Bourgmont, passed directly around the Kansas River in 1724 and through Kansas (mentioning in his account "Canzas"). They inhabited two villages, each containing about one hundred and fifty warriors. 19th century The region claimed by the Kanzas Nation was ceded by treaty of June 1825.The Missouri Shawanoes [or Shawneess] were the first Indians re...
